About Emi

Emi R is a storyteller based in Indiana. Born in 2004 in Tennessee, Emi spent her youth fantasizing all sorts of stories in every medium possible. Now, she makes those fantasies real by giving social commentary through unusual means in emotional, multi-media stories.Upon receiving an honorable mention from Scholastic Art & Writing for her poem Burning Flowers, she sought to further her creative skills at Butler University. From there, Emi's desire to bring people together through language and creativity manifested in a livestreaming career on Twitch under the name "Cupcaeke".With poetry under their belt, Emi broke onto the prose scene with their short story The First Blaspheme published by Psycotoxin Press. They have gone on to receive multiple awards for their work, including the "Margaret M. Kuhn Scholarship" for distinction in literature, as well as the "Grace Farrell Award" for writers devoted to political engagement and social activism.Today, Emi works independently as a poet, fiction writer, essayist, game designer, digital artist, VTuber, musician, and others in an effort to bring people together not in spite of their differences, but because of them.

Why "Cupcaeke?"

Following her transition, Emi wanted a new image that would match her goals. So she created Kaela, the virtual face of Cupcaeke."Cupcaeke was initially just a joke nickname I received. But over time, I started to resonate with it. It made it easier to present as sweet and approachable."When her streaming career took off, Emi realized that her followers had come for that sense of ease that the face and name created. So she leaned into it."My background and color palette was actually just old vent art I made. But it hit me that those pastel colors and forest aesthetic actually matched the exact environment I wanted for Kaela and Cupcaeke."The peculiar 'ae' in their name is a nod to their love of language--in particular, Latin. In addition to the abundant philosophy and history associated with the language, Emi found whimsy in the ancient stories of Rome during their time in studying it in university."There is joy and whimsy in everything, even the most serious of topics. Cupcaeke as an idea is a place where I can bring those things together."

Sniping Position

A longform prose project with unedited chapters being released in serial.Imagine a world where wars were fought not with bloodshed, but violence of the mind. A messy lesbian punk, a socially incompetent thief, an oddly cheerful dancer, and a wealthy community servant are set careening towards Amber Rose, a vigilante organization whose snipers wield mind-tampering nanobullets. Can these ambitious fools change the world one target at a time; or will they lose their own minds in the process?

The Maligned Mountains

A Homebrew D&D5e campaign livestreamed on Twitch.Colossal creatures known as the "Maius" dominate the world. It has been this way for as long as anyone can remember, yet everyone knows there was a time before them. Humanity struggles to survive their predators, while the Maius grow more powerful upon consuming others and weakening when they don’t. There is some sort of social hierarchy, but no one can tell what it is. Nobody knows how the Maius got here, why they are here, or how to stop them at large.Can the people of this world, living in the ruins of ancient civilizations, fighting over resources, struggling even to live a peaceful life, gather the strength to annihilate the Maius and find out their secrets? Or will they stumble and fall at their own hands and those of mammoth stone till only these beings are left? Or maybe there is something else?
